Kazatomprom May Mine Tantalum in Brazil with Local Company

Almaty. December 26. Interfax-Kazakhstan - Kazakhstan's national nuclear corporation, Kazatomprom, plans to mine tantalum in Brazil with a local company, Director Mukhtar Dzhakishev said Wednesday.

"On the subject of Kazatomprom's involvement in tantalum production outside of Kazakhstan, we have started talks with Brazilian companies. We have received initial offers, and intend to explore the issue further," he told journalists in Almaty.

He also said that Kazatomprom is involved in negotiations with other foreign companies over joint ventures outside of Kazakhstan.

"Brazil is not the only country. We have alternatives," he said.
