“Rare Metals 2005” Conference, Lisbon, Portugal

For the first time, in June of this year Kazatomprom participated in “Rare Metals 2005” Conference in Lisbon, Portugal, which was organized by Association for Rare Metals Trade and “Metal Pages”, one of most prestigious magazines of west media.

Most famous and top-rank members of this segment of market - producing, storage, trading and service companies of the industry such as A&M Minerals and Metals Ltd., Mitsubishi Corp., AIM Speciality Materials., Lambert Metals International Ltd and other big players of the rare metals world took part in this event.

At the conference, reports on producers and customers covering rare metals market, government storage facilities and possible changes that could be resulted by implementation of legal basis on REACH chemicals (Registration, Evaluation and Authorization of Chemicals) were presented.

At opening of the conference, Kazatomprom was given a floor and greeted all members of the conference. A good and graphic report of UMP’s Deputy Director for Sale, Mr. A. Ye. Gagarin presenting prognosis and details on tantalum and beryllium market has attracted specific interest and many unindifferent questions of members of the conference. Kazatomprom has attracted attention of the audience as it is one of biggest and strongest companies at the market of rare metals and for the last years leads the list of world companies producing beryllium and tantalum. It was great to see such a genuine interest and respect to our company and country.

Many interesting and promising meetings and talks with the members of the conference became the basis for fruitful joint projects. Head of “Tropac”, the largest company in the world, has intentionally arrived to the conference to meet and negotiate with the representatives of Kazatomprom. During the meeting mutually satisfying and beneficial agreement on sale of beryllium products was reached.
