Press Release on Kazatomprom, CGNPC and CNNC Signing of Agreements

JSC National Atomic Company “Kazatomprom” (Kazatomprom), one of the world leading uranium producers, China Guangdong Nuclear Power Holding (CGNPC), dealing with NPP construction and operation in China, and China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC), the major state company in the Chinese nuclear industry which has a complete nuclear cycle, have announced that a number of agreements related to further development of nuclear power cooperation was signed in Beijing in September 2007.

In particular, Kazatomprom and CGNPC signed two Memoranda on co-development of uranium resources in Kazakhstan by establishing a joint venture and on investments of Kazatomprom into Chinese nuclear power industry.

Mr. Moukhtar Dzhakishev, President of Kazatomprom, and Mr. Heyu, General Manager of CGNPC, signed the Memoranda. The signing ceremony was attended by Mr. Qian Zhimin, Board Chairman of CGNPC, and also representatives from the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in China, Ministry of Commerce and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, Commission of Science Technology and Industry for National Defense of the People's Republic of China.

Signature of the Memoranda is the result of efficient work done by National Atomic Company Kazatomprom and China Guangdong Nuclear Power Corporation and an important step to strengthening all-round cooperation in power industry between China and Kazakhstan.

Kazatomprom and CNNC signed the Framework Agreement for Pushing Forward of Strategic Cooperation, which defines the most important directions of strategic partnership in the field of nuclear energy including establishment of joint ventures for natural uranium production and Kazatomprom's investments into nuclear power industry.

The Agreement was signed by Mr. Dzhakishev, President of Kazatomprom, and Mr. Kang Rixin, President of CNNC. The signing ceremony was attended by Mr. Sun Qin, the Chairman of China Nuclear Energy Committee, Deputy Chairman of Commission of Science Technology and Industry for National Defense of People's Republic of China (COSTIND).

Development and extension of the strategic cooperation between Kazatomprom and CNNC has significant importance for the both parties and will promote cooperation in the strongest links of nuclear fuel cycle of the both countries.

In accordance with the signed documents, all natural uranium produced by joint Kazakhstani-Chinese enterprises will be delivered to China in the form of high value added nuclear fuel products.
