Press Release on Signing of Framework Agreement and Deepening of Strategic Cooperation Between Kazatomprom and CGNPC
24.05.2007In Beijing (People's Republic of China), Kazatomprom and China Guangdong Nuclear Power Holding Co., (CGNPC) have concluded Agreement regarding expansion and deepening of strategic cooperation, which covers process of certain nuclear fuel products by Kazatomprom for some NPPs in China and uranium resources supply from Kazatomprom to support nuclear power development in China. Deepening and expansion of strategic partnership between Kazatomprom and CGNPC is of great importance in strengthening of all-round working relationship in nuclear power sector and related fields between China and Kazakhstan and will promote strength to strength cooperation in these fields between two countries.
The above-mentioned agreement is an important result of efficient work of Kazatomprom and China Guangdong Nuclear Power Holding. It is the subsequent step following the signature by both parties of the Strategic Cooperation Agreement in December 2006 in Almaty (Kazakhstan).
The Agreement regarding expansion and deepening of strategic cooperation has been already approved by the governmental bodies of China and Kazakhstan that bears evidence of coming into force of this Agreement.
KAZATOMPROM – the national operator of Kazakhstan on export of uranium and other materials of dual purpose. 100% of shares belong to the government represented by the ministry of energy and mineral resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan. “Kazatomprom” represents a holding managing six main directions of activity: geology exploration, production of uranium, metallurgy, energy, scientific support of production, personnel training and social support. China Guangdong Nuclear Power Holding Co., (CGNPC) is a super large-scaled state-owned enterprise and is directly under SASAC (State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council). The core business of CGNPC covers construction and operation of large nuclear power plants. The other main business includes uranium development inside and outside China, trade of uranium-related products, wind power and new technology R&D in atomic energy. CGNPC has at present 4 GWes power units in operation and 10 GWes in construction. It is one of the main undertakers of nuclear power development plan of central government in China. CGNPC is a nuclear power group with the biggest growth potentiality in the world with total 8500 employee.
