Press Release: Kazakhstan 2004 Uranium Production
14.03.2005Kazakhstan has produced 3,719 metric tons of uranium in 2004 displaying some 10% increase to the previous year. In addition to 3636mtu production of the National Company Kazatomprom this includes minor quantities of its joint ventures and Stepnogorsk Mill, which is presently controlled by Kazatomprom.
During the current year Kazatomprom targets above 4 thousand tons of uranium production, and gradual augment up to 15 thousand tons annual output starting from 2010 to position Kazakhstan as the World’s largest uranium producer.
State-owned company Kazatomprom reports to the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources of Kazakhstan. Kazatomprom is the country’s exclusive import and export agent for uranium and other materials of dual use. Kazatomprom today is a group of adjacent companies of total staff of 19,000 employees involved in uranium geology and mining, metals processing, energy generation and supply, professional training, research and development, and social development.
