Press Release: The Vice President of Kazatomprom has become a member of the Board of Management of the WNA

The Vice-President of the National Atomic Company (NAC) 'Kazatomprom' has become a member of the Board of Management of the World Nuclear Association, which is the global industrial organization that seeks to promote the peaceful worldwide use of nuclear power as a sustainable energy resource in the future. Specifically, the WNA is concerned with nuclear power generation and all aspects of the nuclear fuel cycle, including mining, conversion, enrichment, fuel fabrication, plant manufacture, transport and safe disposition of spent fuel. The WNA facilitates its members' interaction on technical, commercial and policy matters and promotes wider public understanding of nuclear technology.

Current WNA members are responsible for some 90% of the world's nuclear generated electricity outside the USA and 90% of world uranium, conversion and enrichment production.

Participation of NAC Kazatomprom's representative in the Board of Management would enable to solve matters on governing the organization, developing the policy and strategic objectives of the WNA. Dr. R. Tursunbayev will start carrying his duties on April 1, 2004, concurrently continuing his work as the Vice-President, Marketing and Sales, of NAC Kazatomprom.

Apart from NAC Kazatomprom's representative, one official from each of the following companies – Electricitй de France (France), Synatom SA (Belgium), Exelon Generation LLC (USA), Framatome Advanced Nuclear Power (France), Mitsubishi Corporation (Japan), British Nuclear Fuels plc (UK) – have also become members of the Board of Management.

Since 1997, NAC Kazatomprom has been an active member of the WNA. In 2001, at the annual symposium of the WNA, the company made a report 'Analysis of the raw materials base and uranium production for the decade'. In 2002, NAC Kazatomprom presented a paper 'Pricing in the uranium market' calling the uranium consumers and producers on introduction of the stock exchange mechanisms in determining the uranium price.
