Betpak Dala
The Betpak Dala Joint Venture is engaged in the development of two mines in Southern Kazakhstan:- Akdala (the first mine in the world to produce one thousand tons of uranium within one year by the in-situ leaching method)
- Site №4 of the Inkai deposit (South Inkai).
An aggregate designed capacity of three thousand tons of uranium per year is expected to be reached in 2011.
Betpak Dala was founded in March 2004, on the site of the Akdala mine (pilot production was started in 2001), for commercial production and to continue further exploration of mineral resources with radioactive contaminant. In September 2005 the enterprise gained the rights to subsoil use and implementation of exploration and mining, of uranium, on site №4 of the Inkai deposit. Its second mine was put into operation in November 2007, the construction of the mine having been completed at the earliest possible date – within just 24 calendar months.
In May 2008, for the first time in the history of Kazatomprom, the first portion of uranium peroxide was attained at the Akdala mine with the use of hydrogen peroxide as a precipitating reagent. Chemical analysis of dry uranium concentrate for impurities was made in accordance with ASTM requirements. Similar technology was also used at Site №4 of the Inkai deposit.
Yuriy Fadeev is Director General of Betpak Dala.
