CuBe Flat-Rolled Products

Taking into consideration the  prospectivity of the Chinese market, in 2006 UMP JSC made the  decision to establish a Kazakhstan-Chinese joint venture for production of beryllium bronze rolled metal in the People’s Republic of China . Following consideration, of potential partners for the establishment of such a joint venture, preference was given to the Ningbo Xinye Electronic Copper Strip Co., which is part of the Shine Copper Industry Co., Ltd.

November 2007 saw the finalisation of the registration of the Kazakhstani-Chinese joint venture the “YINGTAN ULBA SHINE METAL MATERIALS COMPANY LIMITED” in the People’s Republic of China .

Aim of the JV:  the construction of a plant for production of flat-rolled products, from high-strength and highly conductive copper-beryllium alloys, to meet Chinese consumers’ needs for high-quality products.

Distribution of shares in the JV: 50%  /  50%.

Short name the «Ulba Shine Co., Ltd.»

The Establishment of the joint venture was to allow for entry into the high-technology products market, to increase the sales volumes of products manufactured by the beryllium production capacities of UMP JSC and to expand its presence in the Chinese market with highly value added products.

Production: production of strips and other products from beryllium bronze including sheets, rods and wire and profiled rolled metal from beryllium bronze.

Production volume: up to 2,000 tonnes of all types of products per annum. Production volumes may be increased on the mutual agreement of the Parties.

Sales: The JV products are to be sold at Chinese and overseas markets. Shine Copper Industry boasts a high reputation amongst a wide circle of customers of the industry. Usage of the Company’s distribution network will allow for the reduction of costs and the simplifying of promotion of new products to final consumers.

At the first stage of the organization of the beryllium bronze production capacities, a test fusion was made resulting in the attainment of beryllium bronze ingots. The main aim of the fusion process pilot launch was to check the work of primary and auxiliary equipment, including a check of ventilation system work, development of beryllium bronze ingot production technology and the revealing of the vulnerability of the production process.

The second stage covered the establishment of the rolled metal production capacities and a test lot of finished products.

Ningbo Xingye Electronic Copper Strip Co., Ltd. («Xingye») was established in 1998. In 2006 the total sales volume amounted to US $150 million, including export amounting to US $40 million and income, before income tax, amounting US $8 million. The Xingye Company has a wide experience of production of high-accuracy materials from copper based alloys. At present, the annual production volume of copper alloy strips with the trade mark “Three rings” is more than 20,000 tonnes. The Xingye Company is an assistant secretary of the China Industrial Association of nonferrous metal converters, an assistant secretary of the Heavy Nonferrous Metal Association and a member of the International Wrought Copper Council (IWCC). The main production of the Xingye Company is represented by high-accuracy strips and sheets made of phosphor bronze, nickel-argentic alloys, copper and brass, as well as special purpose strips made of copper for use in frames with leads for integrated circuits. These products are widely used in electronic engineering, electric apparatus, telecommunications, television and radio broadcasting, household appliances and the automobile and power industries. The Xingye Company is certified in accordance with the Quality Assurance System ISO 9001-2000 and Environment Protection System ISO14000.
