High Capacity Tantalum Powders

The major share of the world's tantalum consumption falls on high capacity tantalum powders. Such powders are mainly used for production of tantalum capacitors, used in their turn for production of high-technology products in the sphere of telecommunication, computers, machinery and household appliances.

As the capacitor production industry is the main consumer in the tantalum market, and is its driving force, within the framework of the strategy of establishment of hi-tech tantalum products production capacities, a technology for production of high capacitytantalum powders has been worked out and launched.

An opening ceremony for a workshop for production of high capacitytantalum capacitor powders at UMP JSC in Ust-Kamenogorsk was held on December 11, 2008, celebrating the fulfillment of one of the breakthrough projects of Kazatomprom within the framework of the state program “30 corporate leaders”. The tantalum production industry had, indeed, launched a technology for manufacturing modified high capacitydeveloped and melted powders.

Powder pilot lots were first qualified by consumers from Russia. At present they are subject to qualification by consumers from Japan and Israel. Contracts for testing of subcommercial lots of high capacitypowders have also been signed with consumers from Europe and the USA. 

An increase in high capacitypowder production volumes is being provided by the launching of  2nd stage equipment for production of powders with a charge-mass ratio up to 80 ths.micro Coulomb/g, this will allow for the increase in production volumes to an even greater extent.
