Tantalum Production Development

Tantalum (Та) – is a metal used in electronic technologies (Ta capacitors, optoelectronics, spray targets), aircraft engineering, the chemical and petrochemical industry and mechanical treatment (extra-hard alloys). Its high thermal endurance and high corrosion resistance makes tantalum a metal of the future.

The tantalum production complex of the Ulba Metallurgical Plant (forming a part of Kazatomprom Holding) is the sole enterprise on the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and one of the largest in the world, with a complete production cycle from reprocessing of tantalum-niobium bearing feedstock to finished products.

It is planned for the following to be implemented within the framework of the strategy regarding the establishment of capacities for the production of technology intensive tantalum products:

• Realization of the strategic Tantalum-Niobium Feedstock Supply Program;
• Production of high capacity tantalum capacitor powders;
• Production of rolled metal, wire and targets;
• Capacitor production plant construction.

Realization of this strategy will allow for the manufacture of products with high added value and new application properties, as well as  promoting a leading position among the world producers of tantalum products and thus focusing activity on the long-term interests of consumers, staff and society as a whole.
