The Institute of High Technologies
The Institute of High Technologies was established on February 5, 2002 as a sector-specific scientific institute for solving problems of innovation development in the nuclear industry of the Republic of Kazakhstan.The Institute of High Technologies performs its scientific-technical activity in the following spheres:
- definition and organization of scientific-research work with the purpose of developing new technologies and technical solutions, superior to those presently available, by economic indices and production standards;
- organization of research and development work, based on scientific-research work results, to test pilot samples of new equipment and introduce them to industry;
- organization of design and construction work using own and world scientific-research and development experience in the uranium sphere;
- rendering of scientific-technical, engineering and consulting services for working out of standard technical documentation, provision of scientific-technical information, protection of intellectual property and the upgrading of highly-skilled personnel training;
Beginning in 2003, the Institute conducted research work on development of sorption-precipitation technology using hydrogen peroxide as a selective reagent for uranium precipitation in solutions. A turning-point in this work was the launching of the uranium peroxide precipitation technological process at Betpak-Dala JV in May 2008;and it was there that, for the first time in the history of the former Soviet Union, the first commercial batch of natural uranium chemical concentrate as of uranium peroxide was obtained. It is planned that this technology will also be introduced to other holding enterprises.
In 2006 the Quality Management System developed by the Institute of High Technologies was approved and recognized, by the authorized certification body represented by leading IRCA experts, as a system conforming to the ISO 9001-2001 standard requirements of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The attainment of the Quality Management System (QMS) Certificate thus proves that the QMS of scientific-research and methodological work of the Institute of High Technologies for implementing geoanalytical, geophysical, ecological and geochemical research conform with requirements of ISO 9001 international quality standards.
Based on the implemented analysis of the operation of uranium industry production facilities, the following priority work is scheduled, to be implemented, in the sphere of research, development and design:
- Improvement and optimization of uranium in-situ leaching (ISL) geotechnology;
- Improvement of chemical technology for reprocessing pregnant solutions (sorption, extraction, solidification);
- Management of knowledge in the sphere of nuclear technology;
- Design and construction work for uranium industry enterprises.
