APPAK

APPAK LLP is the first Kazakhstan-Japanese joint venture to begin commercial production of uranium.

The company was established in 2005 for the development of the Western Site of the Mynkuduk deposit. At the time of its establishment its sole founder was Kazatomprom.

On July 6, 2006 APPAK was re-registered with a new equity share distribution:   Kazatomprom - 65%, the Sumitomo Corporation - 20% and Kansai Electric Power - 15%. The APPAK foundation is the first stage of realization of a strategic partnership program among the indicated companies.

  • Production capacities and residential apartments of the mine were built and put into commercial operation at the soonest possible instance.
  • Construction work started, at the mine, ten days after re-registration of the company.
  • Thefirst technological well was constructed in February 2007.
  • A state license for construction, putting into operation, operation and decommissioning of enterprises using nuclear power was obtained in August of the same year.
  • The first portion of uranium as of eluate was produced on May 1, 2008.
  • The official opening ceremony of Western Mynkuduk mine was held on June 3, 2008.

The designed capacity of 1 thousand tons of uranium per year is expected to be reached by 2010. The scheduled life duration of the mine is 22 years.

Uranium mining and reprocessing is implemented in accordance with the ASTM 967 standard.

All works at the APPAK mine are fulfilled in compliance with the environmental requirements of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The Company’s social activity is implemented through Kazatomprom-Demeu LLP.
