Kazatomprom-Demeu
Established in 2004, Kazatomprom-Demeu LLP is a subsidiary enterprise of Kazatomprom engaged in managing social facilities and fulfilling social projects. The main financial source of the social company is its authorized fund created by Kazatomprom and its foreign partners. The word “Demeu” is translated from Kazakh as help or support. The Company’s slogan is “Changing life for the better”!The aim of Kazatomprom-Demeu LLP is the social welfare of the citizens of Kazakhstan. Its tasks include rendering local citizens social services and creating better living conditions for employees atKazatomprom enterprisesand developing the social sphere in the regions where the territories of operatinguranium facilities are based.
The Company’s structure includes the Demeu-Taukent, Demeu-Kyzemshek and Demeu-Shieli affiliated branches located in the corresponding settlements of the South Kazakhstan and Kyzylorda Oblast. The Kazatomprom-Demeu LLP central administrative office is situated in Almaty.
Today Kazatomprom is engaged in development and fulfillment of exclusive social programs which involves work in all the regions. Kazatomprom-Demeu LLP implements its activity in the realization of social projects covering three regions in the South Kazakhstan Oblast – Suzak, Ortar and Baidibek and two in theKyzylorda region – Zhanakorgan and Shieli. Local mines provide up to 90% of the uranium mining in Kazakhstan. An individual social program of financing, provided by the Company to the full, is developed for each region. The programs include such main spheres as health care, education, culture, sport and leisure activities, landscaping and also small and medium sized business development.
In 2006 Kazatomprom and the Akimats (local administration) of South Kazakhstan and the Kyzylorda Oblast entered into memoranda on cooperation, support and development of the social sphere. These documents stipulate that the Kazatomprom-DemeuLLP social company shall be engaged in financing, purchasing equipment and implementing construction work and capital repairs regarding schools, kindergartens, hospitals, clubs and other social facilities in South Kazakhstan.
The amounts for social sphere financing are increased year on year. Thus uranium industry development promotes not only development in the power industry of Kazakhstan but also prosperity in the outlying regions of the Republic.
