Kyzylkum

Established in May 2005, Kyzylkum LLP is engaged in fulfilling the Northern Khorassan uranium deposit development project (Khorassan-1 block) with yellow cake as an end product and with its further reprocessing into U3O8.

Its founders are Kazatomprom JSC, Energy Asia (B.V.I.) Limited (a consortium of Japanese power companies) and UrAsia London Limited (a subsidiary company of Canadian Uranium One).

The mine is located in Kyzylorda's Zhanakorgan region.

Pilot production with a production volume of 50 tons of uranium was started in 2008.

In 2009 the enterprise is expected to start commercial production. A designed capacity of 3 thousand tons of uranium per annum is planned to be reached in 2014.

Two subsidiary enterprises were jointly established with Baiken-U: SAP-U LLP for sulfuric acid production and Zhanakorgan Transit LLP, for rendering services on shipment and transportation of cargo.

Between 2005 and 2007 the enterprise contributed KZT 26 million for realization of social projects in the region to help low income families, support students, provide schools with equipment and to help in the construction of the Kharassan-Ata mausoleum. The company has also fulfilled infrastructure projects, the results of which are presently used by the local population - a 303 metre bridge across the Syrdarya River, 50 kilometres of highway, with asphalt-concrete cover, and a railway junction.
