Semizbai-U was established in 2006 within the framework of the “15 000 U, MT by 2010” program, aimed at increasing uranium production volumes in Kazakhstan. Since December 2008 the Semizbai-U LLP shareholders have been JSC NAC Kazatomprom and its subsidiary enterprise Mining Company LLP (51%) and the Beijing Sino-Kaz Uranium Resources Investment Company Limited of the People’s Republic of China (49%).

The Company is engaged in the development of the Semizbai uranium deposit located at the interface of Northern Kazakhstan and Akmola. The mine is being developed by the in-situ leaching method, allowing for minimal influence on the subsoil and environment. Its designed capacity is expected to be 500 tons of uranium per annum and completion of the industrial site construction, and development of the infrastructure of the Semizbai uranium deposit, is scheduled for 2010.

By 2018 it is planned to increase production volumes to 680 tons of uranium per annum.

Under contract terms Semizbai-U appropriates funds of at least USD 100,000 per year for the social needs of the region, including medical care of its staff and the local population, education, sport and other activities upon agreement with the local authorities. In particular secondary school №1, in Stepnyak, has been repaired at the expense of funds allocated by the LLP.
