Social Responsibility

Social sphere development, in the uranium producing regions, is one of the main priorities of Kazatomprom. To this end, the special-purpose social company Kazatomprom-Demeu was created, in 2004.
 
The Company obtains its financing from an authorized fund formed jointly by Kazatoprom with foreign partners, in particular from France, Japan and Russia. Contributions to this authorized capital are non-obligatory social liabilities, stipulated by contracts for subsoil use.

With the main tasks of Kazatomprom-Demeu being restoration and development of social infrastructures, personnel training, health care services, development and support of small and middle sized businesses, culture and sport, and the introduction of landscaping and planting, Kazatomprom-Demeu has, during its short four year  history, implemented various projects at 11 settlements in the South-Kazakhstan and Kzylorda oblasts at a total amount of over 9.9 bln tenge. These include construction of a major road bridge, the laying of 500 km of high-way and 40 km of railways track, rehabilitation of roads in populated areas; construction and the equipping of several medical and feldsher-midwife stations and reconstruction or construction of child day-care centers (5) according to special-purpose designs and equipped with swimming pools, modern game rooms and furniture (selected for each age group). There are no comparable children's day-care centers in the rest of the South-Kazakhstan and Kyzylrdinskaia oblasts. Six secondary schools have also been constructed and reconstructed, with computer classrooms and language laboratories and even an automobile simulator and machine tools for labor classrooms. Kazatomprom has also paid special attention in supporting the opening of tens of small and medium business enterprises provideing additional jobs for rural areas and the possibility to improve the welfare of the population - teaching and medical staff are improving their skills according to a wide advanced training program with the leisure-time of children and adults also under special attention. In the towns of the South-Kazakhstan and Kyzylorda oblasts three cultural and sport centres have been constructed with free libraries, gyms and game rooms, with 53 hobby and sportive groups attended by more than 1300 children. The towns have bowling-centres, cinemas and discotheques with the latest audio-video equipment.
 
These implemented projects are surely best proof of fulfillment by the National Atomic Company of business/social liability principles ,which are an integral part of its development strategy. As a domestic economy flagship, Kazatomprom is ever ready to fulfill its obligations to living standard improvement.
 
As the nuclear industry advances, contributions into human potential also grow for the benefit of the entire Kazakhstan .
