Kazatomprom made the first delivery of fuel assemblies (FAs) of the AFA 3G TM design manufactured by Ulba-FA LLP to China. The nuclear power plant accepted the FAs.

• Kazatomprom held an online event, Digitalisation and People, under its Digital Transformation Programme. The event brought together representatives of Samruk-Kazyna JSC and its portfolio companies, managers and employees of the Corporate Centre, subsidiaries, and affiliates of Kazatomprom.

The Company made the first delivery of Kazakh natural uranium to Argentina under an agreement with Dioxitek.

• Samruk-Kazyna JSC completed a secondary offer of additional shares and global depositary receipts (GDRs) on the London Stock Exchange and AIX. This resulted in a 25% free float percentage of the Company’s shares.

• Annual General Meeting of Shareholders held. The shareholders approved and the company paid dividends of KZT 99 billion based on the 2019 performance, equating to KZT 381.72 per ordinary share (one GDR equals one ordinary share).

After the government issued a state of emergency in the Republic of Kazakhstan, striving to ensure workplace safety and preventing the spread of the coronavirus infection, NAC Kazatomprom JSC took a number of measures to protect its workers' wellbeing. The Company suspended mine preparation works and repair and renewal operations for three months to minimise the presence of employees at workplaces at any one time

•            The Company completed a deal to sell 50% minus one share in the Uranium Enrichment Centre to its partner in this joint venture, TVEL JSC. The Group reserves one share in the Centre, which entitles the Company to access uranium enrichment services as previously agreed with TVEL. Actual cash consideration of Euro 90 million (KZT 43,858 million equivalent) was received.

• Continued supply of the new product, uranium hexafluoride (UF6), to Brazil-based Indústrias Nucleares do Brasil (INB).

• Changes announced to the Board of Directors: Board Chairman Jon Dudas agrees to join the Samruk-Kazyna Board, and hence resigns from the Board of Directors of Kazatomprom. Neil Longfellow is elected Acting Chairman of the Kazatomprom Board of Directors.
   
• The International Atomic Energy Agency Low Enriched Uranium Bank (IAEU Fuel Bank), located at Kazatomprom’s Ulba Metallurgical Plant, receives its second and final shipment of low-enriched uranium (in the form of uranium hexafluoride (UF₆)) from Kazatomprom (the first shipment was from Orano in October). This international project, which adheres to all international LEU storage safety standards, enters the operational stage.

• The Board of Directors approves a new Kazatomprom Digital Transformation Roadmap for 2019–2024.

• A Kazatomprom project to introduce an automated control system at the Corporate centre and separate subsidiaries and affiliates based on the SAP ERP intelligent platform wins the annual SAP Value Award for SAP clients in CIS.

• Sovereign Wealth Fund Samruk-Kazyna JSC (Samruk-Kazyna), the majority shareholder of Kazatomprom, completes a secondary public offering (SPO) of Kazatomprom’s global depositary receipts (GDRs), thereby increasing the free float of Kazatomprom shares to 18.72%.

• Kazatomprom holds its first Capital Markets Day as a public company at the London Stock Exchange.

• Announcement of plans to extend the 20% production decrease (against subsoil use agreement volumes) into 2021 (previously 2018-2020).

• The closing ceremony of the Uvanas mine (the first uranium deposit in Kazakhstan, fully depleted using the ISR method) held at the Stepnoye-RU branch of Kazatomprom-SaUran LLP.

• KZT 80 billion in dividends paid to shareholders.

• The first post-IPO Annual General Meeting of Shareholders is held, attended by shareholders and their authorised representatives (98.70% of the total number of voting shares of the Company). The shareholders approve a final 2018 dividend of KZT 80 billion, the equivalent of KZT 308.46 per ordinary share (one GDR is equal to one ordinary share).

• The international edition of EMEA Finance recognises Kazatomprom’s IPO as the best privatisation transaction in its financial achievements on international capital markets award “EMEA Finance Achievement Awards 2018”. The Company’s IPO was also recognised by the international financial news platform GlobalCapital as “Transaction No. 1” and “Privatisation transaction No. 2” in Central and Eastern Europe, CIS, and Russia.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) selected NAC Kazatomprom JSC as one of the suppliers of low enriched uranium (LEU) for the IAEA LEU Bank. This demonstrates the high level of trust the international community holds in Kazatomprom as a reliable and recognized supplier of uranium.

Kazatomprom launched IPOs on Astana International Stock Exchange and London Stock Exchange. The company placed 15% of its shares, worth approximately USD 451 million, on the London Stock Exchange. Following this, Kazatomprom entered a new phase of its corporate development.

Today Kazatomprom shareholders include investors from Kazakhstan as well as leading international investment funds.

Kazatomprom is the first national company in the Republic of Kazakhstan to become an official partner of the global Vision Zero programme. The priority of the programme is to ensure the health, safety and well-being of employees. The programme was developed by the International Social Security Association (ISSA) and is aimed at preventing occupational diseases and accidents in the workplace.

The President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, held a meeting with the CEO of NAC Kazatomprom JSC Mr. Galymzhan Pirmatov. At the meeting, Mr. Pirmatov presented President Nazarbayev with the company’s results and its development prospects.

The composition of the Kazatomprom Board of Directors changed to include three prominent, internationally experienced specialists in the uranium and atomic sectors as independent directors: Jon Dudas (Chair of the Board of Directors), Neil Longfellow and Russel Banham.

The Managing Director for Marketing and Sales at Kazatomprom, Dauren Alybayev became a member of the senior management of the World Nuclear Fuel Market International Association. This is the first time a representative of Kazatomprom was appointed to a senior management position at the association. This demonstrates the company’s willingness, as a leading uranium producer, to actively participate in the development of a peaceful atom.

After the successful IPO of Yellow Cake Plc – a long-term holder of physical uranium – Kazatomprom provided the first supply of over 3,100 tons of natural uranium, which is more than 5% of the world production from primary sources (according to UxC forecast), to the company. This transaction was made subject to the terms of the long-term contract signed between the companies on May 10, 2018.

Kazatomprom entered a new European market when it concluded a contract for natural uranium supplies with Swedish utility, Vattenfall, after being selected by the company following a tender process. Kazatomprom successfully met the arrangements of the contract.

Kazatomprom won the international tender for the supply of natural uranium to Indústrias Nucleares do Brasil (INB). This was Kazatomprom’s first client based in Brazil, and it successfully met the terms of the arrangement.

The International Specialized Exhibition Astana EXPO-2017 was held in the Republic of Kazakhstan. For the purpose of participation in the exhibition, the pavilion «World of Nuclear Energy» was built by the world leaders in the nuclear industry – Kazatomprom, Rosatom, Cameco and AREVA*. It clearly showed all the latest achievements of the nuclear industry, nuclear power security and environmental safety, as well as prospects for the development of the industry.

On April 21, 2017, an Agreement was signed between NAC Kazatomprom JSC and NJSC KazNRTU named after K.I. Satpayev in Almaty that created the International Scientific and Educational Centre for Nuclear Industry. The Centre trains highly qualified specialists for the nuclear industry in Kazakhstan, while also training foreign students. The educational institution will improve training methods and technology in ways that support Kazatomprom.

On April 10, 2017, a major agreement was signed between NAC Kazatomprom JSC and AREVA* that strengthened their long-standing cooperation in the uranium mining sector of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The official signing ceremony took place in Astana with the participation of Mr Kanat Bozumbayev, Minister of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Mr Philippe Varin, Chairman of the Board of Directors of AREVA*. This agreement benefits both Kazakhstan and France, while opening new opportunities for developing and improving their joint venture, JV KATKO LLP (AREVA* (51%) and Kazatomprom (49%)).

On March 30, 2017, the Board of Directors of Kazatomprom approved the acquisition of 49% of the shares in the charter capital of JV SARECO LLP from Sumitomo Corporation.

In March 2017, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between NAC Kazatomprom JSC, UMP JSC and the Akimat of the East Kazakhstan region. Under the Memorandum, KZT 3 bln was transferred to the regional budget for social and economic development of East Kazakhstan for 2017-2019.

Kazakhstan and Mongolia intend to cooperate in nuclear field

During a meeting between representatives of Kazakhstan and Mongolia the  areas of mutual interest including geological exploration, uranium mining and processing were highlighted for cooperation.

Kazatomprom has started construction of a plant to produce fuel for Chinese nuclear power plants.

Kazatomprom and Czech Uranium Industry signed a Memorandum on Cooperation in the field of nuclear energy.

Kazatomprom and Kazakh National Technical University signed an agreement on scientific and technical cooperation in the field of fundamental and applied research in nuclear and alternative energy and personnel training.

Kazatomprom and Rosatom signed a Memorandum of Understanding and Expanding of Strategic Cooperation in the field of NFC.

The trading company TH Kazakatom AG was established to strengthen Kazatomprom’s international marketing functions and attract new customers.

Kazatomprom started the implementation of 26 projects as part of the business Transformation program which will allow the company to obtain economic benefits worth more than 130 billion tenge by 2025.

Kazatomprom signed an agreement with the Chinese CGNPC for the supply of Kazakh fuel pellets to Chinese nuclear power plants until 2024.

Kazatomprom and its Chinese partners strengthen cooperation by discussing the further implementation of joint Kazakh-Chinese projects and attracting investment in the nuclear industry of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The Company agreed with Cameco on restructuration of LLC “JV “Inkai” and increase of the share of Kazatomprom in the Joint Venture from 40% to 60% in 2018.

During the framework of a pilot project, the Company launched the “Digital Mine” system at the mining company LLP “Kazatomprom SaUran”. Due to introduction of this system, the equipment diagnosis period was reduced from 14 to 2 days, electricity, the consumption of materials and reagents was reduced by ten percent, the time of low-productivity wells was reduced by three times

Kazatomprom signed an agreement with ConverDyn for joint marketing efforts in the UF6 market.

During the official visit of Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, Karim Massimov to China, Chairman of the Board of Kazatomprom Askar Zhumagaliev and the CEO of CGNPC Zhang Shanming signed an agreement of commercial terms for the development and construction of a plant for the production of fuel assemblies in Kazakhstan and joint development of uranium deposits in Kazakhstan.

At the end of the year Kazatomprom  was the winner of the “Best Product of Kazakhstan” competition in the nomination “For contribution to the development of local content”. National Atomic Company is recognized as the best customer support of domestic producers.

Kazatomprom, “The Japan Atomic Power Company” and “Marubeni Utility Services, Ltd.” signed a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) According to the document, the parties intend to develop cooperation in the field of nuclear energy, including consultation, exchange of experience in public relations, the organization of technical workshops and expert meetings on security issues, as well as training and development of qualification for the specialists in the nuclear industry.

The company’s Transformation program was launched.

Kazatomprom and Centrus Energy Corporation signed a Memorandum of Understanding, which envisaged the development of a mutually beneficial relationship for the implementation of Kazakhstan's competitive supply of natural uranium to the world market.

President of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev hosted, the Chairman of the Board of Kazatomprom Askar Zhumagaliyev. During the meeting, A. Zhumagaliyev reported to the President on the approval of the development strategy of the national atomic company which defined key objectives of Kazatomprom  for the next 10 years.

Askar Zhumagaliyev and the  Kazatomprom  delegation participated in the annual symposium of the World Nuclear Association (World Nuclear Association - WNA) in London.

During the symposium, head of Kazatomprom held a series of bilateral talks with foreign partners. In particular, Askar Zhumagaliyev met with President of “Cameco” Tim Gittsel, the senior executive vice-president of “AREVA” Wonsam Olivier, President of Uranium One, Vasily Konstantinov and others.

The Chairman of the Board of Kazatomprom Askar Zhumagaliyev ", visited Vienna. During the meeting with the CEO of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) - Yukiya Amano, a wide range of matters of bilateral cooperation in the nuclear field and the peaceful use of nuclear energy were discussed. The practical matters of establishment of the Bank of low-enriched uranium IAEA in Kazakhstan were discussed.

In late August, , the Chairman of the Board of Kazatomprom Askar Zhumagaliyev  presented the Development Strategy for Year 2015-2025 to the members of the Board of Directors. The document defined the mission, vision and overall direction of the company's development in the coming years and outlined the strategic goals that would improve the efficiency of its operation and increase its value.

During his visit to the Russian Federation, the Chairman of the Board of Kazatomprom Askar Zhumagaliyev  met with the CEO of "Rosatom"  State Corporation Sergei Kiriyenko. During the meeting a wide range of issues of bilateral cooperation in the field of nuclear energy was discussed.

The Chairman of the Board of Kazatomprom Askar Zhumagaliyev, visited the UAE on a working visit in order to study international experience in the field of peaceful use of nuclear energy and develop mutually beneficial cooperation. Zhumagaliyev visited the construction site of the nuclear power plant "Barack" and got acquainted with all phases of nuclear power plant construction.

Askar Zhumagaliyev was appointed as a Chairman of Kazatomprom.

Kazatomprom repaid its 5-year USD 500 million Eurobond with a coupon of 6.25% issued in May 2010.

By the end of the first quarter, Ortalyk mined its 10,000th ton of uranium at the Central Mynkuduk deposit in the Sozak district of South Kazakhstan region. Sulfuric acid plant CKZ-U produced its first millionth ton of acid in Zhanakorgan district of the Kyzylorda region.

Kazatomprom presented to the management of JSC "National Welfare Fund "Samruk-Kazyna", the design of  strategic initiatives of Kazatomprom within the framework of its Transformation Program.. The document, developed by international consultants, provides for an improvement in the efficiency of investment as well as the company’s operational activities and its productivity.

More than 23 800 tons of uranium was produced by the companies within the Kazatomprom holding, which allowed the company to maintain a leading position in the world of uranium production.

During the year Kazatomprom made agreements that are strategically important for Kazakhstan’s nuclear industry with:

• Chinese CGNPC on commercial terms for the design and construction of a plant for production of fuel assemblies in Kazakhstan
• French Électricité de France (EDF) for the supply of EDF 4500 tons of natural uranium concentrate from 2021 to 2025
• Government of India for the supply of 5000 tons of Kazakh uranium to India
• IAEA on the establishment of the Bank of low-enriched uranium in the Republic of Kazakhstan, which will be located on the territory of the Ulba Metallurgical Plant
• Qatar Solar Energy to establish a joint venture in the field of solar energy

Kazatomprom and the China General Nuclear Power Corporation (CGNPC) signed an agreement on expanding and deepening mutually beneficial cooperation in the field of nuclear energy.

Kazatomprom signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with the Kyzylorda Oblast for 2015-2016, under which the company undertakes obligations for social infrastructural development, improving well-being and lives of the citizens of the region.

"Volkovgeology" received the main prize of the annual republican competition RATIONALIZER.KZfor the best system of innovation support in the enterprise. In the nomination "Best rationalization decision of the Year" the second place and a cash prize was given to innovators of tantalum production of "Ulba Metallurgical Plant".

Nurlan Kapparov, the Chairman of the Board of Kazatomprom, during a working visit to the People’s Republic of China, held talks with the heads of Kazatomprom partner companies and Chinese government officials, and discussed the development of cooperation and joint projects.

Kazatomprom delegation took part in the 39th Annual Symposium of the World Nuclear Association (World Nuclear Association - WNA). The head of Kazatomprom Nurlan Kapparov became a participant in a panel discussion on the main threats and opportunities for the fuel cycle companies.

Kazatomprom organized the VII International Scientific and Practical Conference "Topical problems in the uranium industry", which was attended by more than 250 uranium industry specialists from the CIS including Kazakhstan, Russia, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan,  as well as  France, Germany, USA , Canada, Norway, the UK, Japan and other countries.

During the 58th session of the General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Nurlan Kapparov, the Chairman of the Board of Kazatomprom, met with the Director General of the IAEA Yukia Amano, US Secretary of Energy Ernest Moniz, head of the Rosatom State Corporation Sergey Kiriyenko, as well as with the heads of delegations of India, France and China.

Nurlan Kapparov became the head of Kazatomprom.

The same month, a joint Kazakh-Canadian uranium mining company Inkay reached a production of 10,000 tons of uranium from the start of exploration of the deposit.

The process of reorganization of the Mining Company was completed through its merger with Kazatomprom.

Since its opening the joint Kazakh-Russian uranium mining company LLP “Betpak Dala” extracted 20,000 tons of uranium from the Akdala and Inca deposits.

As part of  the official delegation headed by the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev, the representatives of Kazatomprom took part in the III Nuclear Security Summit.

The volume of uranium production in the Republic of Kazakhstan amounted to 22,829 thousand tons.

The National Atomic Company continued exploration work aimed at increasing the resource base of uranium on the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan in 2014. More than 986 exploration wells totalling 452,946 linear meters were drilled during the year.

A joint Kazakh-Russian uranium mining company Betpak Dala extracted 20,000 tons of uranium from the Akdala and Inca deposits.

MAEC-Kazatomprom launched a new distillation desalination plant for seawater desalination with the capacity of 12 000 tons per day.

The creation of a full cycle of production of solar panels in Kazakhstan has been completed.

Kazatomprom became a shareholder of Kaustik.

Moody's Investors Service affirmed the issuer rating of Kazatomprom at Baa3.

The joint venture OAC acquired a 25% plus 1 share in the largest Russian separation company Ural Electrochemical Plant. And in November 2013, 300 thousand SWU worth of production was sent to consumers.

Kazatomprom retained its position as the world leader in natural uranium mining, continuing to provide about 20% of the world's demand for this raw material even though the year was not the most favourable for many players in the uranium market.

Kazatomprom opened an office in the United States - the third overseas office of the company.

During the year, more than 2,300 exploratory wells were drilled.

On December 25, LLP «Astana Solar» was launched commissioning of the plant for the production of photovoltaic modules in Astana. Production line was started by the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev. Plant LLP «Astana Solar» is the final technological link of KazPV major project, where fully integrated production line for the production of renewable energy was created in Kazakhstan.

President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev presented the main awards of the best domestic enterprises of the country's industrialization. JSC "NAC" Kazatomprom " was recognized "innovation leader" for 2012.

The opening ceremony of a new industrial complex of collective concentrates of rare earth metals (REM), built by the joint Kazakhstan-Japanese company Summit Atom Rare Earth Company (SARECO), took place in Stepnogorsk, Akmola region.

With the help of uranium mining companies, such as "Ortalyk" and "Katko" in the Shu province of South Kazakhstan region, for the first time since the founding, there was a high-quality drinking water. It provides a supply container water treatment system, the smooth and efficient operation that provide alternative power sources - solar panels and wind stations. Since the establishment of Shu in 1962, its inhabitants had to experience problems with drinking water. The nearest borehole is 20 kilometers from the province.

On October 26,  in Astana by the initiative of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan,  patrons were honored in the field of education. The head of JSC "NAC" Kazatomprom" was recognized as one of the top philanthropists in the category "Investing in the Future " and was awarded a gold medal "Patron".

On October 30, The heat pump boiler in the Kirov high school of Praporschikovo village of Glubokoe district of East Kazakhstan region is started. This is the first object of education, heating of which will be carried out on the basis of heat pump units (HPU), produced in "Mashzavod" - subsidiary of JSC "UMP".

Kazatomprom received awards again. On March 27, "Ulba Metallurgical Plant" held a public hearing, the theme of which was the construction of a new production of fuel assemblies (FA) for nuclear power plants. Representatives of the executive power, deputies of the city maslikhat, public organizations of Ust-Kamenogorsk, the activists of "Nur Otan", the employees of UFG are brought together to discuss the project. The meeting was attended by experts of the company AREVA, taking part in the project. As a result of hearings the protocol was designed, which recorded the general opinion of the participants is positive, attitude to the construction of a plant for the production of fuel assemblies on the basis of JSC "UMP". It was decided to approve the draft and send it to the environmental impact assessment in accordance with the law.

LLP "Taukent mining and chemical plant" - one of the largest uranium mining companies in Kazakhstan, has marked the 30 anniversary of the creation. The main activity of TMCP until 2004 was uranium mining and processing to yellowcake, wherein the content of uranium concentrates is about 30%. Uranium mining and processing added in 2014. JSC "NAC" Kazatomprom " is based on TMCP refinery, mine group allowed the company to produce export products - uranium oxide, with the content of the metal up to 87%. Today TMCP produces high quality products with the classic method of uranium extraction from sulfuric acid solutions.

On December 10, JSC "NAC "Kazatomprom" and the Atomic Energy Commission and alternative energy sources in France (CEA) signed documents aimed at strengthening cooperation in the field of new technologies and the implementation of joint projects in the exploration and processing of rare and of rare earth metals (RM&REM) in the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Kazatomprom and German Chemieanlagenbau Chemnitz GmbH signed a memorandum, which defines the terms of cooperation on creation of joint Kazakh-German world-class innovations, breakthrough technologies and new high-tech industries in the nuclear, chemical and metallurgical sectors of industry in Kazakhstan, Germany and other countries. There are 9 specific projects, including the construction of pilot plants for the production of hydrochloric acid, sodium cyanide, chloride production and calcium hypochlorite and other chemical products.

2011 was remarkable for Kazatomprom in implementing the social partnership program.

The results of the contest of social responsibility of business "Paryz 2011" were announced on December 9. Kazatomprom became a winner in the nomination "The Best Social Project of the Year".

LLP "Mining Company" took the first place in the category "Best Employer of the Year in the regions", according to the results of the competition "Senim-2010", which took place from November 2010 to January 2011.

JSC "Volkovgeology" became the winner in the nomination "National pride" in the National sectoral contest "Golden Hephaestus", which defines the best in mining and metallurgy.

"Ulba Metallurgical Plant" is recognized as the winner of the Republican contest of rationalization solutions "Ratsionalizator.KZ" in the nomination "The best support system innovation in the enterprise."

The 52-th General Assembly of the International Centre for the Study of tantalum and niobium took place in Almaty with the support of Kazatomprom, which is the largest discussion forum to discuss trends in the tantalum market and niobium, the development of production technology of tantalum and niobium products, extraction of raw materials at individual deposits and security of supply.

Kazatomprom and Japanese Toshiba Corporation established a joint venture for research and development, production and sale of rare-metal and rare-earth products and materials.

Kazatomprom and AREVA signed an agreement on cooperation in the field of renewable and alternative energy sources.

Kazatomprom and Kaustik have planned new projects in the chemical industry worth USD 200 million.

Astana Solar was created to implement solar battery project on the basis of the Kazakhstan silicon.

Kazatomprom and the French company AREVA signed an agreement to establish a plant to produce nuclear fuel at the Ulba Metallurgical Plant facilities in Kazakhstan.

Kazatomprom has signed several large uranium supply contracts with existing and new customers, including the French Électricité de France (EDF) and several US energy companies.

The volume of deliveries to consumers totalled 10.3 thousand tons of uranium, accounting for about 17% of the world's reactors needs.

JSC "UMP" has successfully completed the certification of the production of uranium fuel pellets in the company of China Jianzhong Nuclear Fuel (CJNF), which is a part of the China National Nuclear Company (CNNC). Thus, it is launched a large project for the supply of uranium fuel pellets to China, which will be used to make fuel for nuclear power plants in China’s largest owner – Company China Guangdong Nuclear Power Corporation (CGNPC).

Kazatomprom issued its debut USD 500 million 5-year RegS / 144A Eurobond with a 6.25% coupon.

Kazatomprom and the Japanese Sumitomo Corporation established a joint venture SARECO (Kazatomprom -51%, Sumitomo Corporation - 49%).

In order to create a new high-tech knowledge-intensive industries for the manufacture of products of maximum degree of readiness based on rare and rare earth metals, LLP" JV "SARECO" (Kazatomprom -51%, Sumitomo Corporation - 49%) was created by JSC "NAC" Kazatomprom "and Japanese company Sumitomo Corporation in Kazakhstan in March, 2010.

JSC "NAC" Kazatomprom "and Japanese corporation Toshiba signed an agreement to establish a joint venture for research and development, production, production and sales of rare and rare-earth products and materials.

The volume of uranium production in the Republic of Kazakhstan amounted to17.8 thousand tons, almost 30% higher than the 2009 level.

The first mine in Kazakhstan with a production capacity of 3000 tons of uranium per year was opened at the Khorasan-1 site of North Khorasan deposit.

Kazatomprom and Chinese Guangdong nuclear power Corporation (CGNPC) signed a Memorandum on creating a joint venture for the construction of nuclear power plants in China.

Kazatomprom" signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Indian nuclear energy corporation Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL).

The Republic of Kazakhstan became the world’s number one uranium producer. Uranium production totalled 13.5 thousand tons.

A Manufactory for the production of high-capacity condenser tantalum powders was opened in the Ulba Metallurgical Plant. Design capacity - 72.9 tons of tantalum powders of different classes per year.

Kazatomprom and the Chinese energy corporation China National Nuclear Corp (CNNC) and China Guangdong Nuclear Power Co (CGNPC) signed an agreement on a strategic partnership. 

The agreement consists of several parts:

• Long-term supply of natural uranium for nuclear energy in China
• Joint development of uranium deposits in Kazakhstan
• Fuel production for Chinese nuclear power plants
• Construction of nuclear power plants in China

A new mine for uranium mining by in-situ leaching method was opened on the site of the Mynkuduk Deposit "Western" in southern Kazakhstan.

A new joint venture Ulba Conversion was established with the Canadian Cameco Corporation. The production capacity of the upcoming enterprise will amount to 12 thousand tons of uranium hexafluoride (UF6) per year, which corresponds to about 17% of the world's conversion capacity. The share of Kazatomprom in the new joint venture is 51%, Cameco owns 49%.

Kazatomprom signed a strategic agreement with the French company AREVA in the field of nuclear fuel cycle. The joint uranium mining enterprise Katko (Kazatomprom – 49%, AREVA - 51%), will produce 4000 tons of uranium per year in the period up to 2039, the implementation of which will be carried out by AREVA.

Fitch Ratings has upgraded long-term rating of Kazatomprom to BBB- and short-term rating to 'F3'.

JSC "Volkovgeology" celebrated the 60-th anniversary of the foundation, which is the oldest enterprise of the "Kazatomprom". The Company has a huge experience in the exploration and study of uranium deposits of all types, provides geological support of all activities of the National Atomic Company - from prospecting and exploration of uranium deposits to being put into commercial operation.

JSC "Volkovgeology" is directly related to the creation of the powerful mineral resources base with total uranium reserves of 1.5 million tons (19% of explored uranium reserves in the world). Company provides a permanent radio-ecological monitoring in Kazakhstan.

The volume of uranium production in Kazakhstan of 2007 amounted to 6.6 thousand tons of uranium compared to 5.2 thousand tons of uranium in 2006, an increase compared to the previous year was 25.7%.

Kazatomprom signed Agreements with China Guangdong nuclear power corporation (CGNPC) and the China National Atomic Corporation (CNNC) to develop relationships in the field of nuclear energy.

Russia and Kazakhstan established the International Uranium Enrichment Centre (IUEC). The main objective is to enable non-nuclear-weapon states to obtain enriched uranium without access to critical non-proliferation technologies. The establishment of the centre was approved by IAEA experts.

Kazatomprom negotiated and signed 24 agreements on cooperation in the field of nuclear energy with leading Japanese companies operating in the field of energy, trade and finance.

Kazatomprom signed a Memorandum of understanding with the Japanese companies The Kansai Electric Power Co., Inc., Nuclear Fuel Industries Ltd and Sumitomo Corporation for future cooperation in the nuclear fuel production for The Kansai Electric Power Co. Inc. nuclear reactors.

Toshiba has transferred 10% stake in the holding companies owning Westinghouse to Kazatomprom for USD 540 million.

Ulba metallurgical plant signed an Agreement with Ningbo Xingye Electronic Copper Strip Co., Ltd.  to establish a joint venture Yingtan Ulba Shine Metal Materials Company Limited for beryllium bronze ribbons production.

The insurance company NEXI opened a credit line to Kazatomprom for a period of 10 years.

Kazatomprom signed an Agreement with the Guangdong nuclear power corporation (China Guangdong Nuclear Power Holding, CGNPC), on the expansion and deepening of strategic cooperation in the field of nuclear fuel manufacturing for China's nuclear power plants, as well as the supply of resource to China's developing nuclear power industry.

Kazatomprom signed a Protocol of intent to establish a conversion company in the Republic of Kazakhstan with Cameco.

The volume of uranium production in Kazakhstan totalled 6.6 thousand tons of uranium, an increase of 25.7% compared to 2006.

The sulfuric acid plant in Stepnogorsk was put into operation.

A comprehensive program of Russian-Kazakh cooperation in the field of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes has been developed and approved.  The uranium mining venture Akbastau, Center for Uranium Enrichment and Nuclear Power Plants have been established as part of the program.

Cooperation with Japanese companies in various areas of the nuclear fuel cycle has increased. The first delivery of uranium to the Japanese market was carried out. Kazakh-Japanese uranium mining enterprise APPAK was created.

Cooperation with Chinese companies has deepened. Several agreements on cooperation in various fields of nuclear energy have been signed.

Kazatomprom signed an agreement with Chinese partner to establish a joint venture in China to produce beryllium bronze rolled products.

Molybdenum Enrichment Plant was built on the territory of the Stepnogorsk Mining-Chemical Complex.

Kazatomprom received a USD 150 million 3-year syndicated loan from 11 European banks.

At the end of year, for the first time, the net profit has been received since the creation of Kazatomprom. The company started to invest significant investments in renovation and expansion of production facilities. Salaries of employees of the Company were increased by 25%. Increase in payments to the budget and extra-budgetary funds was 60%.

With the help of developed technologies, beryllium production was completely refocused on the issue of peaceful products, the technology for producing a copper-beryllium alloys by carbothermic method was mastered. A long-term contract with the American company "Brush Wellman" was signed.

The company has managed to overcome the 20-year lag in technology and to launch a tantalum production with the help of scientific breakthrough of Kazatomprom specialists in 1999-2000. The production restructuring program was developed with a focus on production of modern high-capacity tantalum capacitor powders and niobium products.

By 2000, the company has achieved a complete removal of restrictions on the sale of Kazakh uranium to the US and European markets. The result is that the geography of natural uranium export has been extended.

Kazatomprom came out on the 6th place in the world by the production of natural uranium, compared with 13th place in 1997.

Kazatomprom generates the first net profit since its establishment.

On the 14th of July 1997, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan N. Nazarbayev signed the Decree of Creation of the National Atomic Company «Kazatomprom».
