Kazatomprom made the first delivery of fuel assemblies (FAs) of the AFA 3G TM design manufactured by Ulba-FA LLP to China. The nuclear power plant accepted the FAs.

•            The Company completed a deal to sell 50% minus one share in the Uranium Enrichment Centre to its partner in this joint venture, TVEL JSC. The Group reserves one share in the Centre, which entitles the Company to access uranium enrichment services as previously agreed with TVEL.   • The International Atomic Energy Agency Low Enriched Uranium Bank (IAEU Fuel Bank), located at Kazatomprom’s Ulba Metallurgical Plant, receives its second and final shipment of low-enriched uranium (in the form of uranium hexafluoride (UF6)) from Kazatomprom (the first shipment was from Orano in October). This international project, which adheres to all international LEU storage safety standards, enters the operational stage.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) selected NAC Kazatomprom JSC as one of the suppliers of low enriched uranium (LEU) for the IAEA LEU Bank. This demonstrates the high level of trust the international community holds in Kazatomprom as a reliable and recognized supplier of uranium.

Kazatomprom launched IPOs on Astana International Stock Exchange and London Stock Exchange. The company placed 15% of its shares, worth approximately USD 451 million, on the London Stock Exchange. Following this, Kazatomprom entered a new phase of its corporate development.

Today Kazatomprom shareholders include investors from Kazakhstan as well as leading international investment funds.

Kazatomprom is the first national company in the Republic of Kazakhstan to become an official partner of the global Vision Zero programme. The priority of the programme is to ensure the health, safety and well-being of employees. The programme was developed by the International Social Security Association (ISSA) and is aimed at preventing occupational diseases and accidents in the workplace.

The President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, held a meeting with the CEO of NAC Kazatomprom JSC Mr. Galymzhan Pirmatov. At the meeting, Mr. Pirmatov presented President Nazarbayev with the company’s results and its development prospects.

The composition of the Kazatomprom Board of Directors changed to include three prominent, internationally experienced specialists in the uranium and atomic sectors as independent directors: Jon Dudas (Chair of the Board of Directors), Neil Longfellow and Russel Banham.

The Managing Director for Marketing and Sales at Kazatomprom, Dauren Alybayev became a member of the senior management of the World Nuclear Fuel Market International Association. This is the first time a representative of Kazatomprom was appointed to a senior management position at the association. This demonstrates the company’s willingness, as a leading uranium producer, to actively participate in the development of a peaceful atom.

After the successful IPO of Yellow Cake Plc – a long-term holder of physical uranium – Kazatomprom provided the first supply of over 3,100 tons of natural uranium, which is more than 5% of the world production from primary sources (according to UxC forecast), to the company. This transaction was made subject to the terms of the long-term contract signed between the companies on May 10, 2018.

Kazatomprom entered a new European market when it concluded a contract for natural uranium supplies with Swedish utility, Vattenfall, after being selected by the company following a tender process. Kazatomprom successfully met the arrangements of the contract.

Kazatomprom won the international tender for the supply of natural uranium to Indústrias Nucleares do Brasil (INB). This was Kazatomprom’s first client based in Brazil, and it successfully met the terms of the arrangement.

The International Specialized Exhibition Astana EXPO-2017 was held in the Republic of Kazakhstan. For the purpose of participation in the exhibition, the pavilion «World of Nuclear Energy» was built by the world leaders in the nuclear industry – Kazatomprom, Rosatom, Cameco and AREVA*. It clearly showed all the latest achievements of the nuclear industry, nuclear power security and environmental safety, as well as prospects for the development of the industry.

On April 21, 2017, an Agreement was signed between NAC Kazatomprom JSC and NJSC KazNRTU named after K.I. Satpayev in Almaty that created the International Scientific and Educational Centre for Nuclear Industry. The Centre trains highly qualified specialists for the nuclear industry in Kazakhstan, while also training foreign students. The educational institution will improve training methods and technology in ways that support Kazatomprom.

On April 10, 2017, a major agreement was signed between NAC Kazatomprom JSC and AREVA* that strengthened their long-standing cooperation in the uranium mining sector of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The official signing ceremony took place in Astana with the participation of Mr Kanat Bozumbayev, Minister of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Mr Philippe Varin, Chairman of the Board of Directors of AREVA*. This agreement benefits both Kazakhstan and France, while opening new opportunities for developing and improving their joint venture, JV KATKO LLP (AREVA* (51%) and Kazatomprom (49%)).

During the framework of a pilot project, the Company launched the “Digital Mine” system at the mining company LLP “Kazatomprom SaUran”. Due to introduction of this system, the equipment diagnosis period was reduced from 14 to 2 days, electricity, the consumption of materials and reagents was reduced by ten percent, the time of low-productivity wells was reduced by three times

During the official visit of Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, Karim Massimov to China, Chairman of the Board of Kazatomprom Askar Zhumagaliev and the CEO of CGNPC Zhang Shanming signed an agreement of commercial terms for the development and construction of a plant for the production of fuel assemblies in Kazakhstan and joint development of uranium deposits in Kazakhstan.

At the end of the year Kazatomprom  was the winner of the “Best Product of Kazakhstan” competition in the nomination “For contribution to the development of local content”. National Atomic Company is recognized as the best customer support of domestic producers.

Kazatomprom, “The Japan Atomic Power Company” and “Marubeni Utility Services, Ltd.” signed a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) According to the document, the parties intend to develop cooperation in the field of nuclear energy, including consultation, exchange of experience in public relations, the organization of technical workshops and expert meetings on security issues, as well as training and development of qualification for the specialists in the nuclear industry.

President of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev hosted, the Chairman of the Board of Kazatomprom Askar Zhumagaliyev. During the meeting, A. Zhumagaliyev reported to the President on the approval of the development strategy of the national atomic company which defined key objectives of Kazatomprom  for the next 10 years.

Askar Zhumagaliyev and the  Kazatomprom  delegation participated in the annual symposium of the World Nuclear Association (World Nuclear Association - WNA) in London.

During the symposium, head of Kazatomprom held a series of bilateral talks with foreign partners. In particular, Askar Zhumagaliyev met with President of “Cameco” Tim Gittsel, the senior executive vice-president of “AREVA” Wonsam Olivier, President of Uranium One, Vasily Konstantinov and others.

The Chairman of the Board of Kazatomprom Askar Zhumagaliyev ", visited Vienna. During the meeting with the CEO of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) - Yukiya Amano, a wide range of matters of bilateral cooperation in the nuclear field and the peaceful use of nuclear energy were discussed. The practical matters of establishment of the Bank of low-enriched uranium IAEA in Kazakhstan were discussed.

In late August, , the Chairman of the Board of Kazatomprom Askar Zhumagaliyev  presented the Development Strategy for Year 2015-2025 to the members of the Board of Directors. The document defined the mission, vision and overall direction of the company's development in the coming years and outlined the strategic goals that would improve the efficiency of its operation and increase its value.

During his visit to the Russian Federation, the Chairman of the Board of Kazatomprom Askar Zhumagaliyev  met with the CEO of "Rosatom"  State Corporation Sergei Kiriyenko. During the meeting a wide range of issues of bilateral cooperation in the field of nuclear energy was discussed.

The Chairman of the Board of Kazatomprom Askar Zhumagaliyev, visited the UAE on a working visit in order to study international experience in the field of peaceful use of nuclear energy and develop mutually beneficial cooperation. Zhumagaliyev visited the construction site of the nuclear power plant "Barack" and got acquainted with all phases of nuclear power plant construction.

By the end of the first quarter, Ortalyk mined its 10,000th ton of uranium at the Central Mynkuduk deposit in the Sozak district of South Kazakhstan region. Sulfuric acid plant CKZ-U produced its first millionth ton of acid in Zhanakorgan district of the Kyzylorda region.

Kazatomprom presented to the management of JSC "National Welfare Fund "Samruk-Kazyna", the design of  strategic initiatives of Kazatomprom within the framework of its Transformation Program.. The document, developed by international consultants, provides for an improvement in the efficiency of investment as well as the company’s operational activities and its productivity.

  • French Électricité de France (EDF) for the supply of EDF 4500 tons of natural uranium concentrate from 2021 to 2025

Kazatomprom and the China General Nuclear Power Corporation (CGNPC) signed an agreement on expanding and deepening mutually beneficial cooperation in the field of nuclear energy.

Kazatomprom signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with the Kyzylorda Oblast for 2015-2016, under which the company undertakes obligations for social infrastructural development, improving well-being and lives of the citizens of the region.

"Volkovgeology" received the main prize of the annual republican competition RATIONALIZER.KZfor the best system of innovation support in the enterprise. In the nomination "Best rationalization decision of the Year" the second place and a cash prize was given to innovators of tantalum production of "Ulba Metallurgical Plant".

Nurlan Kapparov, the Chairman of the Board of Kazatomprom, during a working visit to the People’s Republic of China, held talks with the heads of Kazatomprom partner companies and Chinese government officials, and discussed the development of cooperation and joint projects.

Kazatomprom delegation took part in the 39th Annual Symposium of the World Nuclear Association (World Nuclear Association - WNA). The head of Kazatomprom Nurlan Kapparov became a participant in a panel discussion on the main threats and opportunities for the fuel cycle companies.

Kazatomprom organized the VII International Scientific and Practical Conference "Topical problems in the uranium industry", which was attended by more than 250 uranium industry specialists from the CIS including Kazakhstan, Russia, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan,  as well as  France, Germany, USA , Canada, Norway, the UK, Japan and other countries.

During the 58th session of the General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Nurlan Kapparov, the Chairman of the Board of Kazatomprom, met with the Director General of the IAEA Yukia Amano, US Secretary of Energy Ernest Moniz, head of the Rosatom State Corporation Sergey Kiriyenko, as well as with the heads of delegations of India, France and China.

The same month, a joint Kazakh-Canadian uranium mining company Inkay reached a production of 10,000 tons of uranium from the start of exploration of the deposit.

The National Atomic Company continued exploration work aimed at increasing the resource base of uranium on the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan in 2014. More than 986 exploration wells totalling 452,946 linear meters were drilled during the year.

A joint Kazakh-Russian uranium mining company Betpak Dala extracted 20,000 tons of uranium from the Akdala and Inca deposits.

Kazatomprom retained its position as the world leader in natural uranium mining, continuing to provide about 20% of the world's demand for this raw material even though the year was not the most favourable for many players in the uranium market.

Kazatomprom opened an office in the United States - the third overseas office of the company.

During the year, more than 2,300 exploratory wells were drilled.

On December 25, LLP «Astana Solar» was launched commissioning of the plant for the production of photovoltaic modules in Astana. Production line was started by the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev. Plant LLP «Astana Solar» is the final technological link of KazPV major project, where fully integrated production line for the production of renewable energy was created in Kazakhstan.

President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev presented the main awards of the best domestic enterprises of the country's industrialization. JSC "NAC" Kazatomprom " was recognized "innovation leader" for 2012.

With the help of uranium mining companies, such as "Ortalyk" and "Katko" in the Shu province of South Kazakhstan region, for the first time since the founding, there was a high-quality drinking water. It provides a supply container water treatment system, the smooth and efficient operation that provide alternative power sources - solar panels and wind stations. Since the establishment of Shu in 1962, its inhabitants had to experience problems with drinking water. The nearest borehole is 20 kilometers from the province.

On October 26,  in Astana by the initiative of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan,  patrons were honored in the field of education. The head of JSC "NAC" Kazatomprom" was recognized as one of the top philanthropists in the category "Investing in the Future " and was awarded a gold medal "Patron".

On October 30, The heat pump boiler in the Kirov high school of Praporschikovo village of Glubokoe district of East Kazakhstan region is started. This is the first object of education, heating of which will be carried out on the basis of heat pump units (HPU), produced in "Mashzavod" - subsidiary of JSC "UMP".

JSC "Ulba Metallurgical Plant" was awarded winning the main prize of "Senim-2011" national contest. "UMP" was recognized the winner in two nominations: "The Best Company employer in the region, with more than 250 employees" and "Best HR-project".

On March 27, "Ulba Metallurgical Plant" held a public hearing, the theme of which was the construction of a new production of fuel assemblies (FA) for nuclear power plants. Representatives of the executive power, deputies of the city maslikhat, public organizations of Ust-Kamenogorsk, the activists of "Nur Otan", the employees of UFG are brought together to discuss the project. The meeting was attended by experts of the company AREVA, taking part in the project. As a result of hearings the protocol was designed, which recorded the general opinion of the participants is positive, attitude to the construction of a plant for the production of fuel assemblies on the basis of JSC "UMP". It was decided to approve the draft and send it to the environmental impact assessment in accordance with the law.

LLP "Taukent mining and chemical plant" - one of the largest uranium mining companies in Kazakhstan, has marked the 30 anniversary of the creation. The main activity of TMCP until 2004 was uranium mining and processing to yellowcake, wherein the content of uranium concentrates is about 30%. Uranium mining and processing added in 2014. JSC "NAC" Kazatomprom " is based on TMCP refinery, mine group allowed the company to produce export products - uranium oxide, with the content of the metal up to 87%. Today TMCP produces high quality products with the classic method of uranium extraction from sulfuric acid solutions.

On December 10, JSC "NAC "Kazatomprom" and the Atomic Energy Commission and alternative energy sources in France (CEA) signed documents aimed at strengthening cooperation in the field of new technologies and the implementation of joint projects in the exploration and processing of rare and of rare earth metals (RM&REM) in the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Kazatomprom and German Chemieanlagenbau Chemnitz GmbH signed a memorandum, which defines the terms of cooperation on creation of joint Kazakh-German world-class innovations, breakthrough technologies and new high-tech industries in the nuclear, chemical and metallurgical sectors of industry in Kazakhstan, Germany and other countries. There are 9 specific projects, including the construction of pilot plants for the production of hydrochloric acid, sodium cyanide, chloride production and calcium hypochlorite and other chemical products.

2011 was remarkable for Kazatomprom in implementing the social partnership program.

The results of the contest of social responsibility of business "Paryz 2011" were announced on December 9. Kazatomprom became a winner in the nomination "The Best Social Project of the Year".

LLP "Mining Company" took the first place in the category "Best Employer of the Year in the regions", according to the results of the competition "Senim-2010", which took place from November 2010 to January 2011.

The volume of deliveries to consumers totalled 10.3 thousand tons of uranium, accounting for about 17% of the world's reactors needs.

At the end of the year, the volume of uranium production in Kazakhstan amounted to 19.4 thousand tons, an increase of almost 9% from the 2011 level.

A new mine for uranium mining by in-situ leaching method was opened on the site of the Mynkuduk Deposit "Western" in southern Kazakhstan.

A new joint venture Ulba Conversion was established with the Canadian Cameco Corporation. The production capacity of the upcoming enterprise will amount to 12 thousand tons of uranium hexafluoride (UF6) per year, which corresponds to about 17% of the world's conversion capacity. The share of Kazatomprom in the new joint venture is 51%, Cameco owns 49%.

Kazatomprom signed a strategic agreement with the French company AREVA in the field of nuclear fuel cycle. The joint uranium mining enterprise Katko (Kazatomprom – 49%, AREVA - 51%), will produce 4000 tons of uranium per year in the period up to 2039, the implementation of which will be carried out by AREVA.
