Kazatomprom’s subsidiary produced one million tons of sulphuric acid

SKZ-U LLP (subsidiary of NAC Kazatomprom JSC) Sulfate plant in Zhanakorgan region of Kyzylordinskaya oblast produced the first million ton of the acid. This is a significant event for the plant with the team which has endeavored its best efforts and has used its qualification to achieve the tasks assigned.

The plant was built in December, 2011, under the program “Forced Industrial-Innovative Development of Kazakhstan for 2010-2014». As a feedstock for its products the plant uses Kazakhstan block sulfur supplying Kazatomprom’s enterprises with sulphuric acid which is the basic reagent in the process of uranium production by means of In-situ leaching technique at the mines of Khorassan-1, Khorassan-2, Severnyi and South Karamurun deposits.

For manufacturing of sulphuric acid «SKZ-U» LLP uses state-of-the-art, effective and environmentally-friendly technologies – transition of feed into the end product reaches approximately 99,9 %.

Besides the plant has used energy-saving production methods. As a result the enterprise can supply itself and regional networks with electric energy up to 18 MW.

The design capacity of the plant is 500 000 t of sulphuric acid per year or 1500 t per day. The plant total cost is about USD216 million.  «SKZ-U» employs more than 300 people.
