Press release «Kazatomprom» and «Qatar Solar Energy» sets up the joint venture in the sphere of solar energy

Within the framework of the official visit of Nursultan Nazarbayev, the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the State of Qatar, CEO of Kazatomprom Askar Zhumagaliyev and CEO of «Qatar Solar Energy» Saleem Abbasi have signed Framework Agreement for establishment of the joint venture in the sphere of solar energy.

This document provides for the development of mutually beneficial cooperation of the two countries in the field of renewable energy sources. According to the agreement, Kazatomprom becomes a strategic shareholder of the Qatar company «Qatar Solar Energy» and is able to expand the production chain of solar panels from raw materials to electric energy production. The parties agreed to use Kazakhstani silicon of high quality to manufacture solar panels. Sinergy of two manufactures will allow raising the competitive capacity of the products on the world markets.

         - This JV is a strategic step for our industry and we focus on increasing the manufacturing capacity of our existing enterprises in Kazakhstan. We will be able to produce ingots and cells with capacity up to 1000 MW», - Head of Kazatomprom stated.

- Qatar and Kazakhstan demonstrates high economic growth in the world seeking to diversify its economics in search of new markets. This Agreement vividly shows that solar energy is a powerful driver of international growth. We plan to expand our production in Ust-Kamenogorsk, creating additional jobs.  Semiconductor wafers and photocells produced in Kazakhstan will be delivered to Qatar and then here on the site solar array assembly will be carried out”, - Saleem Abbasi said after ceremony of signing.   

«Qatar Solar Energy» is the first manufacturer of PV products with integrated processes in the region of Middle East and North Africa. Company opened the plant for manufacturing of solar modules with capacity of 300MW/year located in the industrial area of Doha.
