Kazatomprom and Framatome signed an Agreement on the development of cooperation in the field of the nuclear fuel cycle

On November 1, an official visit of the President of France Emmanuel Macron took place at the invitation of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

During the visit, the leaders of the two countries held negotiations on strengthening trade, economic, investment and energy cooperation, and also discussed issues on the international and regional agenda.

As part of the visit, Kazatomprom’s Chief Executive Officer Meirzhan Yussupov and Framatome’s Fuel Business Unit, Sales & Marketing Vice President Vincent Mercier signed an Agreement on the development of mutually beneficial cooperation in the field of the nuclear fuel cycle between Kazatomprom and Framatome.

“Framatome is one of the strategically important partners for Kazatomprom in the development of nuclear fuel cycle projects. I am confident that joint work will allow us to open up new prospects for the development of bilateral relations between our countries in the field of peaceful use of nuclear energy”, said Meirzhan Yussupov, Kazatomprom’s CEO.

The agreement provides for the expansion of mutually beneficial cooperation between the companies to implement joint promising projects in the field of the nuclear fuel cycle, as well as the education and training of specialists.

"Framatome is pleased to have signed today this agreement with Kazatomprom, the world's largest uranium producer. It strengthens our long time partnership and will enable us to extend our cooperation in the field of nuclear fuel cycle", said Vincent Mercier, Fuel Business Unit, Sales & Marketing Vice President on behalf of Framatome. 

It should be noted that both sides have already had experience in long-term strategic partnership and interaction within the framework of the first fuel assembly production plant in the Republic of Kazakhstan, and intend to further strengthen cooperation in the nuclear industry.
