Kazatomprom presents its nuclear safety achievements at IAEA General Conference

The 68th session of the General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is taking place in Vienna (Austria), bringing together representatives of 178 countries to discuss key issues in nuclear energy. The conference will include thematic sessions, bilateral meetings, a scientific forum and an exhibition of the nuclear industry achievements of the IAEA member countries.

Kazakhstan’s national pavilion presented at the exhibition is dedicated to the development of peaceful nuclear energy, the country's contribution to global nuclear safety and ensuring stable supplies of uranium.

The pavilion’s opening ceremony was attended by the IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Kazakhstan to Austria Mukhtar Tleuberdy, Minister of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan Almassadam Satkaliyev, the management of National Atomic Company Kazatomprom JSC, National Nuclear Center of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

In his speech, Rafael Grossi emphasized the important role of Kazakhstan in global initiatives on low-carbon development:

"Kazakhstan plays a key role in our joint efforts, and its contribution is extremely important due to its significant uranium reserves. We highly value your country's long-standing cooperation with the IAEA, especially in the context of hosting the Low Enriched Uranium Bank, and are ready for further interaction to advance significant clean energy initiatives", noted the head of the IAEA.

Almassadam Satkaliyev, the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan reaffirmed the country's commitment to strengthening global nuclear safety:

"This year marks 30 years since Kazakhstan joined the IAEA. Throughout this period, we have consistently supported the idea of peaceful use of nuclear energy under the auspices of the Agency and actively promoted international efforts aimed at ensuring global stability and security", the minister noted.

He also stressed that Kazakhstan, being a world leader in uranium mining and having its own production of nuclear fuel components and fuel assemblies, as well as significant human resources and experience in this area, will continue developing its nuclear energy sector.

The 68th session of the IAEA General Conference will last until 20 September. During the event, the Kazakh delegation will hold thematic sessions and meetings with representatives of partner countries to discuss the issues of bilateral cooperation in the field of nuclear energy and safety.
