Kazatomprom took part in the international symposium of the IAEA URAM-2023

The international symposium "Uranium Raw Materials for the Nuclear Fuel Cycle" (URAM-2023), which takes place every four years, was held under the auspices of the IAEA from 8 to 12 May in Vienna (Austria).

At the industry event, experts, scientists and representatives of the IAEA member countries from all over the world discussed the latest developments and innovations, as well as safety aspects and technical, social, environmental aspects related to the uranium industry.

As the world leader in the uranium mining industry, Kazatomprom promotes the transition to clean energy with the help of carbon-free base capacities. Natural uranium goes through several stages of production and processing before it becomes capable of generating clean nuclear energy for the planet. By joining the UN Global Compact in 2022, the nuclear holding has supported large-scale initiatives in the field of sustainable development. The Company has developed a Strategy for decarbonization and achieving carbon neutrality in 2060, aimed at systematically reducing greenhouse gas emissions. “One of the proofs of the effectiveness of the work done in this direction can be considered the assignment of an ESG rating to the company," said Aliya Akzholova, Acting Chief Operations Officer. - In the field of social development, Kazatomprom contributes to the sustainable growth of the socio-economic well-being of the regions where the Company operates in order to improve the standard of living of current and future generations. Minimization and mitigation of the impact of enterprises' activities, development and implementation of new environmentally friendly technologies and processes that comply with the best international practices are the basis of the company's Development Strategy.

Also, a separate session at the symposium was devoted to gender policy in nuclear energy. Aliya Akzholova spoke in detail about the measures taken by Kazatomprom to promote this initiative. The Atomic Holding supports the principle of gender equality and actively attracts women to leadership positions.
