Kazatomprom’s CEO discussed the further development of the nuclear industry with senators at a visiting session of Senate deputies

A visiting session of deputies of the Committee on Economic Policy, Innovative Development and Entrepreneurship of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan was held on 9 June at the headquarters of NAC Kazatomprom JSC ("Kazatomprom" or "Company"). The event was also attended by representatives of government agencies.

The topic of the meeting was the discussion of topical issues of the nuclear industry and the further improvement of the activities of the national nuclear company.

CEO of Kazatomprom Yerzhan Mukanov told the deputies about the current activities and development plans of the nuclear holding. The parliamentarians got acquainted with the exhibition exposition, which clearly presents the latest achievements of the nuclear industry. The main stages of the nuclear fuel cycle – from uranium mining to the manufacture of fuel assemblies - were presented.

The Chair of the Senate Committee, Suindik Aldashev, noted that Kazatomprom remains the largest uranium producer in the world by the end of 2022, accounting for about 22% of the world's uranium production.

"Improving the efficiency of Kazatomprom is crucial for the further development of the nuclear industry in Kazakhstan. To do this, it is necessary to continue work on the introduction of new and optimization of used methods of exploration, extraction and processing of uranium, replenishment of the raw material base, diversification of transport routes for the supply of uranium and training of highly qualified personnel," the senator emphasized.

Yerzhan Mukanov informed the representatives of the upper chamber about the company's fulfillment of all planned production and financial indicators by the end of 2022. All enterprises of the nuclear holding extract uranium by In-Situ Leaching method, which is recognized in the world as the most progressive, environmentally safe and economically profitable.

"The safety and health of our employees and minimizing the impact of production activities on the environment have been and remain the main priorities of Kazatomprom. We invest heavily in environmental protection measures and the implementation of occupational safety and industrial safety programs. The Nuclear Holding also pays special attention to the socio-economic development of the regions of its presence and the development of their infrastructure. The company will continue to work on the implementation of significant social projects aimed at improving the quality of life of the local population," Yerzhan Mukanov noted.

At the end of the speech, a question-and-answer session was held, during which the heads of the nuclear holding provided the deputies with comprehensive information.

Summing up the meeting, the Deputy, Suindik Aldashev, emphasized that the Senate Committee is open to joint work and proposals aimed at further improving the efficiency of Kazatomprom and the nuclear industry of Kazakhstan as a whole.
