Kazatomprom and Rosatom have signed Memorandum of Understanding and Expanding of Strategic Cooperation in NFC

During the XIII Forum of Interregional Cooperation of Kazakhstan and Russia held in Astana, Rosatom State Corporation, the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan and NAC Kazatomprom JSC signed the Memorandum of Understanding and Expanding of Strategic Cooperation in NFC field.

Tripartite Memorandum was signed by Sergey Kiriyenko (Director General of Rosatom), Kanat Bozumbayev (Minister of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan) and Askar Zhumagaliyev (CEO of NAC Kazatomprom JSC).

In the Memorandum, the parties confirmed their commitment to previously reached agreements on Integrated Program of Kazakhstan - Russian cooperation in the peaceful uses of atomic energy and agreed to focus on further partnership development using the existing infrastructure of joint ventures, including in uranium production, conversion, enrichment, fabrication of fuel and NFC final stage.

The document also stipulates the work on possibility of joint participation in the IAEA’s international projects and sharing the existing transport and logistic ways and means in Russian Far East.

In furtherance of the Memorandum, NAC Kazatomprom JSC and Uranium One Inc. (a part of Rosatom’s international uranium mining division) signed the agreement on further development of Karatau joint venture, and the contract on uranium enrichment services option exercise by the Kazakhstan party under the UEC Project for 2.5 mln. SWU per year was signed between NAC Kazatomprom and UEC JSC.
