NAC Kazatomprom JSC continues to invest in socio-economic and infrastructure development, improving the quality of life in the regions where the Company operates.

The Company and its subsidiaries are actively working on the implementation of socially significant projects in the regions of presence:

As part of the Friendly Inkai program, JV Inkai LLP has implemented two projects. One is related to providing Internet access to residents of Taikonyr village. A 3G connection was launched in the village with the technical support of KAP Technology LLP, and a mobile operator, with a resulting doubling of the speed of mobile Internet. The second project is “Rapid transport for Taikonyr”. Since February 2020, the Inkai bus runs weekly on Tuesdays via Taikonyr-Sholakkorgan-Taikonyr route and transfers Taikonyr residents to the administrative center of Sozak district at no cost.In the context of the Year of Volunteer in Kazakhstan, young specialists of RU-6 LLP created a group Generous Souls, which is aimed at helping socially vulnerable families.

A social store was created where those in need can get clothes, shoes and necessary household items at no cost. To gather these items, bins were placed in several busy places.Employees at UMP provide foster care for 23 orphans and children left without parental care from orphanages in Ust-Kamenogorsk. The employees helped children in social adaptation and ensured participation of foster-children in corporate, holiday, sports and other cultural events of UMP.As part of the annual republican campaign "Road to School", Kazatomprom and all subsidiaries collected funds for the purchase of clothes, shoes, backpacks, and stationery to help families in the regions.

This year, Semizbay-U LLP conducted land surveying with dumping of 3 dams for protection against floods in Aksu rural district of Akmola region.In 2020, the Company plans to implement a number of initiatives in the southern region. In the Sozak district of Turkestan region, Kazatomprom intends to build children's playgrounds (the villages of Zhartytobe, Akkoltyk, Babata), purchase a passenger minibus for transporting schoolchildren (Aksumbe), improve the territory of the village club (Taikonyr), replace street lighting lamps (Taikonyr and Kyzyemshek) and build an alley of WWII veterans with a monument in honor of the 75th anniversary of Victory Day (Babata settlement).

In Zhanakorgan and Shieli districts of Kyzylorda region, the Company plans to make major repairs and reconstruction of street lighting, build a children's playground (Baikenzhe settlement), and a dike on both sides of the footbridge through the Nansai drainage channel (Bala Bi settlement)In the near future, Kazatomprom will initiate a number of other socially significant projects aimed at the socio-economic development of the regions of presence, such as construction and repair of public roads, children's playgrounds, sports complexes, as well as landscaping of settlements.In 2020-2022, the Company plans to build a fly-over and a 4.8 km road in Kyzylorda region. This project is designed to ensure safe movement of vehicles carrying dangerous goods, and to improve infrastructure.

 

As previously released, during the state of emergency, Kazatomprom employees transferred their one-day wages to the medical workers of Nur-Sultan and Almaty, who are fighting the spread of the pandemic in Kazakhstan. The funds raised are aimed at financial incentives for doctors, acquisition of necessary equipment, and personal protective equipment.

Kazatomprom together with its partner, Orano, the French state-owned company, decided to transfer KZT 50 million from KATCO, the Kazakh-French joint venture, to Birgemiz public fund, established by the initiative of the First President Nursultan Nazarbayev, to support the needy social groups in the struggle against pandemic. KATCO also purchased 6 ventilation machines for hospitals in Turkestan region and the city of Shymkent for a total of KZT 100 million. The necessary medical equipment for treating patients with coronavirus will arrive from the USA in the near future.

Other Kazatomprom subsidiaries also provide assistance to the local population (food, essentials, masks and antiseptics) and medical workers involved in the fight against the spread of COVID-19.Thus, the Company continues to be guided by ESG principles, implementing socio-economic and infrastructure development projects, and improving the welfare and quality of life of employees and the residents living in uranium mining regions.
